Registering for ScubaEarth
Q: What is ScubaEarth?
A: ScubaEarth is a one-stop website for everything scuba. You can easy log, share and find information for worldwide dive destinations, all in one place. You can create an account for free and start finding buddies, connect with PADI Dive Shops, log your dives, share your favorite diving pictures and videos, access a digital gear locker, and much more. ScubaEarth allows divers to share their experiences in a global community and find inspiration for future adventures.
Q: Who can register for ScubaEarth?
A: Anyone can register for ScubaEarth. It is simple, free and fast to sign up for ScubaEarth. When registering you will see that there are different diving levels for you to select which helps customize the website experience for you. Please note that users under 13 years of age are not permitted to register on ScubaEarth.
Q: I'm having trouble registering for ScubaEarth. What should I do?
A: Firstly make sure you have a look through our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) to see if this helps. If you still have trouble after this, simply contact the customer service department of your local PADI Office and we will be happy to assist you with registering for ScubaEarth. Alternatively you can contact your local PADI Dive Shop who may be able to assist you with registration.
Q: I don't know my student number when registering. How can I find out my student number?
A: When registering as a PADI Diver you can easily find out your student number by using the 'Lookup' button next to the 'Student Number' field. After filling out the information your student number will be sent to your email address. If you don't receive an email please contact the customer service department of your local PADI Office. Also be sure you check any junk/spam folders.
Q: Do I need to select a primary PADI Dive Shop to affiliate with when registering for ScubaEarth?
A: Yes, you will need to select a primary PADI Dive Shop. For PADI Dive Shops that have set up a ScubaEarth account, you will be able to simply search for the shop and select the 'Choose This Shop' link. For PADI Dive Shops that haven’t set up an account, you may 'Tell them to join ScubaEarth.' When selecting this option, an email will be sent to the shop that someone is looking for them on ScubaEarth. You can then select an alternate PADI Dive Shop to complete your registration and you will always be able to switch to your preferred shop once they have registered.
Q: I can’t find my local dive shop when registering?
A: Your local dive shop may not be a renewed PADI Dive Shop. If this is the case, ScubaEarth cannot create an affiliation with them. All renewed PADI Dive Shops should be listed. For shops that have set up a ScubaEarth account, you will be able to 'Choose This Shop'. For stores that haven’t set up an account, you may 'Tell them to join ScubaEarth'. When selecting this option, an email will be sent telling them that someone is looking for them on ScubaEarth. Please note that you can then select an alternate PADI Dive Shop to complete your registration and you will always be able to switch to your preferred shop once they have registered.
Profile and Account Settings
Q: What if I have forgotten my password or username?
A: To retrieve your password information, select the 'Forgot Password?' link under the log in and password fields and follow the directions. The information will be sent to the email account you used to set up your profile. Please ensure you also check any junk/spam folders as automated emails are sometimes directed here. If you can’t remember your username, please contact the customer service department of your local PADI Office.
Q: What if some of my PADI certifications are missing?
A: The likely issue is that your certification card requests were submitted with variations to your name. For example, your PADI Open Water Diver certification is under Joe Diver and your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification is under Joseph Diver. If you registered for ScubaEarth as Joe Diver, you won’t see your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification which is under Joseph Diver. Please go to your My Certifications section and click on the Missing Certifications button at the top of the page. You will have a few options to select from the drop down menu to help merge your missing certifications into your account.
Q: I’m a PADI Member and I only see my professional ratings. What about my diver-level certifications?
A: If you are missing any diver certifications, go to your My Certifications section, click on the Missing Certification button at the top of the page and select the option from the menu that best suits your issue.
Q: How can I update my address or email information?
A: You can easily update your information on ScubaEarth by following these steps. Click the Edit Profile link under your avatar (profile photo) and scroll down and click the Update Address button. Type in the updated info and click Submit to save the information and you are done. Please note that PADI Professionals need to update this through the PADI Pros' Site.
Q: I’m a PADI Professional and can’t change the address on my profile. Why is this the case?
A: As a PADI Professionals you can update your mailing address and other information in the My Account section of the PADI Pro’s Site. To update your teaching address, simply contact the customer service department of your local PADI Office. If you are a non-renewed PADI Professional please contact the customer service department of your local PADI Office.
Q: What is the ideal size and resolution for my avatar photo?
A: Avatar photos should be 140 x 140 pixels and under 300k in size.
Q: In addition to my primary PADI Dive Shop, am I able to follow other dive shops as well?
A: Yes, you can sign on as 'Crew' to as many PADI Dive Shops as you want. By joining their crew, you will receive updates from them on your 'Community Updates' area. This is a great way to stay connected with those stores who you have dived with while on vacation.
Q: How do I log out?
A: The “Logout” link is in the “Settings” drop-down located in the header.
Q: How do I change my default measurement units?
A: Click the 'Edit Profile' link which appears under your Avatar (photo). Scroll down and click on 'Account Settings'. Then click on the 'Measurement Type' drop down box to change from metric to imperial or vice-versa.
Q: I travel a lot and dive with several different dive centers, why do I need to primarily affiliate with just one dive center?
A: One of the benefits of ScubaEarth is to be part of a dive community that keeps you updated about dive events in your area or the places you like to dive. By being primarily affiliated with a PADI Dive Shop, you’ll see announcements and receive information about dive activities from the people you already like to dive with. Selecting a dive shop close to home will allow you to easily join the next class or local boat dive, or not miss out on an equipment sale or even a weekend BBQ. You can also join other dive shops as crew, as this will keep you up to date on what's happening via your community updates feature.
Q: Why are there only around 60 featured destinations?
A: ScubaEarth launched featuring some of the top dive destinations around the world, but these are just the start. As the site grows, we will continue to add more exciting locations.
Q: What is the map default location based on?
A: The map is based on your current address location as per Google Maps.
Technical and Troubleshooting
Q: What browsers does ScubaEarth support?
A: Like most sites, ScubaEarth supports the most popular internet browsers to ensure you have an optimized experience on the site. This includes the latest two versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. ScubaEarth also support the most current version of Safari.
Q: I'm having technical problems on ScubaEarth. What should I do?
A: First, please check that your browser is up to date. We support the most current version of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. Second, please try to duplicate the problem on a different device - this will help our support team determine if the issue is related to your account or your equipment. You can report technical problems using the 'Technical Support' link at the bottom of any page on ScubaEarth (must be logged in). If possible please include the devices/browsers you’ve tried, for example; I am using Firefox version 20 on a Windows 7 laptop.
Gear and Manufacturer
Q: I can’t find the manufacture on the list for a couple pieces of my equipment. What should I do?
A: Even though the manufacturer list is extensive, it is not possible to list hundreds of manufacturers, especially for specialty equipment, such as underwater cameras and housings. Choose “Other” if you can’t find the manufacturer of your equipment. If you feel the manufacturer should be on the list, please submit your suggestion using the “Feedback/Ideas” link in the footer of each page.
Q: Some of the categories don’t apply for all my equipment, such as last service date for my snorkel. What should I do?
Simply leave a category blank if it does not apply.
Q: I’m a gear manufacturer. How do I make my logo available to dive shops on ScubaEarth?

Media (Photos & Videos)
Q: I see two dive sites close together with the same name but spelled differently, for example Shaw’s Cove and Shaws Cove. Which one should I choose to log my dive?
A: With so many people contributing to ScubaEarth, a few dive sites may be mistakenly duplicated. Log your dive on the site that has more logged dives already affiliated with it. You can also report a duplicate site by clicking the Feedback/Ideas link at the bottom of any page on ScubaEarth (must be logged in).
Q: What is the correct format for entering latitude and longitude?
A: Latitude and longitude need to be entered in decimal degrees, they look something like this: 33.546456,-117.8015. Many online mapping services, such as Google Maps, provide location information in the correct format already. Also, when creating a new dive site in ScubaEarth, there is a drag and drop feature during the first step where you can place a pin on the map to mark the dive site. This will automatically record the location in the correct format.
Q: I see a dive site that doesn’t have a description, but I can’t add or edit it. Why is this?
A: PADI Professionals are responsible for describing dive sites. If you see a local site that needs a description, ask your dive center or PADI Instructor or Divemaster to fill in the appropriate information.
Q: Am I able to log dives while my computer is offline?
A: Not at this time. However, it is scheduled to be a feature in the future.
Privacy & Reporting
Q: How can I control who sees my information on ScubaEarth?
Q: How do I report incorrect or offensive content?
A: There is a Report Abuse link next to each piece of content on the site. It looks like a cog wheel. Please click on it to report any violations, such as copyright infringement, spam, scam or any other issues with content.
PADI Discover Scuba® Diving Benefits
Q: What are PADI Discover Scuba® Diving benefits?
A: When you complete a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience from the 1st July 2013 with the new participant guide, you will be able to access some exciting PADI benefits through ScubaEarth. These benefits include:
- Access to PADI Open Water Diver Online Preview (1 year access).
- PADI Discover Scuba Diving commemorative eCard.
- PADI Diving Society® - 90-day trial access.
- ScubaEarth™ Premium - 90-day trial access.
When registering for ScubaEarth as a PADI DSD Participant you will receive an email confirmation detailing how you can redeem your benefits through ScubaEarth. If you believe you are eligible for these benefits but are having problems accessing these, please contact the customer service department of your local PADI Office.
Q: Who is eligible for the new benefits?
A: PADI Discover Scuba Diving participants who complete their experience from the 1st July 2013 with the new participant guide will be eligible for the PADI benefits through ScubaEarth.
Your PADI Professional will give you an overview of the new PADI benefits when conducting your PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience.
You will also receive an email communication on how you can redeem these benefits if eligible. If you believe you are eligible for these benefits but are having problems accessing these, please contact the customer service department of your local PADI Office.
Q: What if I am having trouble registering as PADI DSD Participant or redeeming the benefits?
A: If you are having problems registering for ScubaEarth as a DSD Participant please ensure that your are entering the same details as your provided for your PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience.
If you continue to have problems registering, or your benefits are not showing, please contact the customer service department of your local PADI Office.
